In 1399 Matthew witnessed the transaction whereby the Cornish estates of Sir John Trevarthian were placed in the hands of trustees, who included his own kinsman, John Skewys. Described as ‘of Cornwall’, in February 1413 he provided mainprise in Chancery for various men of Hertfordshire who had been indicted for trespass.2CAD, v. A10515; CCR, 1409-13, p. 432.
