biography text

Strange was a dyer. In July 1416 he witnessed conveyances at Hereford, and in 1420, December 1421 and 1422 he attended the parliamentary elections held at the local guildhall. In November 1422 he became a feoffee of the Hereford property of Richard Walwyn of Lugwardine. It was probably about this time that William Hill, a chapman from Abergavenny, filed a petition in Chancery alleging that Strange with other armed ‘riatours’ of his affinity had made several grave ‘affraies’ on his person in Hereford and elsewhere, threatening to murder him and preventing him, through fear, from travelling home.1KB27/633 m. 11d; Hereford City Lib.
