TERYNG, Thomas, of Lincoln.

Teryng first appears in January 1405, when he stood surety in the court of Chancery for Thomas Pigot of Lincoln. His appointment as tronager and pesager of wool at Boston suggests that he was probably a merchant, but little is known about his more personal activities. As mayor of Lincoln, he was responsible for holding the elections to the Parliament of 1420; and in November of the following year he witnessed the ratification, at the guildhall, of ordinances for the use of the common seal. He was also present at a ‘congregation’ held there in September 1423. Much later, in 1452, a local merchant named Seman Grantham made provision in his will for masses to be said at the church of St. Peter at Arches in Lincoln for Teryng’s soul.2Lincs.
