By virtue of his marriage to the recently-widowed Agnes Groos, Wilton was permitted to enter the freedom of Wells in 1407. Apart from two brief periods of official duty and his attestation of the parliamentary election for Wells at Ilchester in November 1414, he was little concerned with the town’s affairs. In 1411 he conveyed three messuages and other properties in Wells to John and Agnes Wyth, for term of their lives. Four years later he and his wife were themselves granted, by the master and commonalty, a lease for life of three cottages and an alder close in ‘Toukerstrete’ at an annual rent of 6s.3C219/11/5; Som.
