William Duckett, a professional soldier, came back from service in Flanders in April 1714.1Letters of Thos. Burnet, 62; Duchetiana, 61. Returned as a Whig for the family borough in 1727 and 1734, he voted for the Administration in all recorded divisions. In August 1733 he seems to have been asked by Walpole to bring in Sir Orlando Bridgeman for Calne but respectfully excused himself from doing so.2Duckett to Walpole, 17 Aug. 1733, Cholmondeley (Houghton) mss. He did not stand in 1741, when he brought in his subordinate officer, William Elliot. He died 12 Dec. 1749.
