Arnold’s father had been ‘custos bonorum’ at Dover in 1376-8, and a jurat subsequently.Add. 29615, ff. 40, 52; Egerton 2088, ff. 15, 116; 2091, f. 17. He himself witnessed deeds in the town between 1412 and 1437 and was engaged in lawsuits in the local courts from 1413. In July 1426 he was one of a group of townsmen who confirmed the lease of a chamber to the rector of St. Nicholas’s church.
