BLAKE, Robert, of Wilts.

Robert was, no doubt, a relation of John Blake II and a member of the same old Calne family. He is only known to have been returned to Parliament once, in May 1421, when Roger Trewebody (a duchy of Lancaster official and a servant of the Hungerford family) stood surety for his attendance.C219/12/5; Somerville, Duchy i. 625; SC6/1049/18, 1119/9. In May 1427, with John Justice and other burgesses of Calne, he witnessed a grant to Robert Long and his associates of land at Calne and elsewhere, mainly in mid Wiltshire. By 1428 he was holding lands and tenements at Shaw-by-Overton (which lies between Marlborough and Calne); and in 1434 he was one of those Wiltshire worthies certified as liable to take the oath not to maintain malefactors.Tropenell Cart. ed.
