Bottenham is first heard of in 1394, as presenting four woollen cloths for levy of alnage. In July 1403 he received a grant of property in Wilton, to be held jointly with William Chitterne, John Hardy and other fellow burgesses; and four years later he acted as a surety for Robert Frye II, clerk of the royal council, when the latter was elected for the borough to the Gloucester Parliament of 1407.E101/345/2; Wilton Corporation deeds S6; C219/10/4. He was dead by 28 June 1412, when the sheriff of Wiltshire was ordered to elect a new coroner in his placed.CCR, 1409-13, p. 287.
