CATCHPOLE, Henry II, of Hereford.

Henry Catchpole II was distinguished from Henry I by his description on the electoral return of 1390 as ‘junior’. He may have been the latter’s son, or, indeed, the son of John Catchpole, the MP of 1372, who in fact then offered sureties for his appearance in Parliament. It was probably he who had witnessed in May 1379 a grant by Henry I to the vicars of the cathedral;C219/9/1; Cal. Hereford Cathedral Muns. (NLW 1955), no. 479. but it seems likely that yet another of his namesakes attested deeds in Hereford in 1409 and 1415, attended the parliamentary elections there in 1417, 1419, 1421 and 1422, and was among the Herefordshire gentry who took the oath 12 years later not to maintain breakers of the peace.CCR, 1405-9, p. 504; Hereford Cathedral Muns. no. 709; C219/12/2, 3, 5, 6, 13/1; CPR, 1429-36, p. 378.
