Chapman was fined in the court of the honour of Arundel in 1407-8 for having committed minor transgressions, and again in the court of the hundred of Arundel 20 years later with regard to breaches of local trading regulations.Arundel Castle mss, M23, 41.

William atte Well, a ‘chapman’ of Arundel, who in 1417 together with his wife Agnes purchased a messuage and two gardens at Upwaltham (a few miles to the north), was possibly the same man.West Suss. RO, Add. ms, 12307.
