DENBY, John I, of Wallingford, Berks.

Active in Wallingford after 1394, Denby, like several other local merchants, dealt in a number of commodities. His main trade seems to have been that of fishmonger, but he is also described in borough records as a salter and a grocer, and between 1400 and 1412 he received a number of payments for ‘lathenayles’ and ‘tylepinnes’ used in repairs to Wallingford castle.Berks.
