biography text
Active in Wallingford after 1394, Denby, like several other local merchants, dealt in a number of commodities. His main trade seems to have been that of fishmonger, but he is also described in borough records as a salter and a grocer, and between 1400 and 1412 he received a number of payments for ‘lathenayles’ and ‘tylepinnes’ used in repairs to Wallingford castle.
Denby witnessed deeds between 1410 and 1426, and was present at the borough elections for the Parliaments of 1413 (May), 1420, 1421 (May) and 1429.
