Edward was perhaps related to a namesake who as lieutenant of Dover castle had held an inquest at Sandwich in 1357, and who was commissioned in 1369 to take punitive action with regard to thefts from certain Spanish ships detained in the port.E159/129 Trin. rot. 196d. He himself held land in the hundreds of Ringslow and Eastry, near Sandwich, for which, as a Portsman, he claimed exemption from taxation between 1373 and 1388.E179/225/4, 7, 11, 22. He was dead by 1395, when his relict (unnamed) was mentioned in the tax return.E179/237/57.
