biography text
Members of the Eylove family had been living in Horsham since the 1330S. A contemporary of Roger’s named Henry Eylove held some land known as ‘Eyloves’ in nearby Slinfold, although, since he was engaged in the Sussex wool trade (on occasion as a smuggler), he more usually resided on the coast at Old Shoreham.
Roger himself is recorded as a witness to deeds at Horsham and Slinfold in the years between 1391 and 1405.
