FRODEN, Michael, of Cornwall.

At the assizes held at Launceston in March 1403 Froden was named by Richard Trevanion and his wife, Joan, as one of their attorneys in a plea of novel disseisin. It is interesting to note that Trevanion’s other attorney was Michael Hoge, the man who accompanied Froden to the Gloucester Parliament of 1407, the only Parliament which Trevanion attended as a knight of the shire for Cornwall. In 1412 and 1413 Froden assisted another member of the Trevanion family, then being prosecuted in the King’s bench.JUST 1/1513 m. 61; KB27/605 m. 41d, 606 m. 11. Otherwise he remains an obscure figure. In 1427 his feudal services were mentioned in a settlement of land in Cornwall, and in the following year he was recorded more specifically as holding property at Brethei in the hundred of Pyder. In March 1429 he obtained a papal indult to have a portable altar within the diocese of Exeter. He probably resided in later life at Trethosa in the parish of St. Austell where in 1432 as ‘Michael Froden Trethosa’ he witnessed a deed.Add. Ch. 19511; Feudal Aids, i. 227; CPL, viii. 183; Cornw.
