GOLDYVE, Matthew, of Rye and Winchelsea, Suss.

Matthew was perhaps the son of Henry Goldyve, the shipmaster who served as mayor of Rye three times between 1353 and 1364.CCR, 1343-6, p. 129; Cat. Rye Recs. ed. Dell, 136/94, 96, 106-8; CIMisc. iii. 490. In 1375 he stood surety for the widow of James Ivory, lately mayor of Rye, following a summons from the Exchequer. By 1388 he had moved to nearby Winchelsea, which paid him £2 6s.8d. in advance for attending the Cambridge Parliament, and, in December following, sent him to represent it at the regular Brodhull held at New Romney.E368/155 Mich. Goldyve died before December 1395, when his daughter, Agnes, made a conveyance of all the lands she had inherited from him at Broomhill, some of which were held as a tenant of Robertsbridge abbey.Cat. Archs. All Souls Coll. ed. Martin, 141.
