PALMER, John (b.c.1393), of Launceston, Cornw.

Family and Education
b. c.1393, s. of Richard Palmer of Launceston. m. Eleanor.
Offices Held

Attestor, parlty. elections, Cornw. 1432, 1447, 1449 (Nov.).

Mayor, Dunheved 1428 – 29, 1431–2, Cornw. RO, Launceston bor. recs., B/Laus/137 is an expense account of the stewards of Launceston for the year from the feast of St. Katherine (25 Nov.) 10–11 Hen VI. R. and O.B. Peter, Hist. Launceston, 124–5 misdated it (and consequently Palmer’s mayoralty) to 1432–3. B/Laus/61 (which shows Palmer to have been in office on 24 Aug. 1432) confirms the re-dating. [ 1441, 1446], The evidence for the assertion by Peter and Peter, 400–1 that Palmer held further mayoralties in 1441 and 1446 has not been discovered. If the latter date is correct, it must relate to the mayoral year 1445–6, as Robert Cork was mayor on 4 Sept. 1447: B/Laus/62. 1450–1; Add. Ch. 64024. ?steward 1430–1; KB145/6/9. steward and bailiff of the portreeves 1443–4. KB9/249/27; KB27/739, rex rot. 21d.
