In 1754 Poore contested Salisbury against Julines Beckford, was elected on a double return, and petitioned, but almost immediately withdrew. He was returned unopposed on Lord Feversham’s interest at the Downton by-election of 1756, but did not stand again at the general election. He acted as returning officer at Downton until his death on 19 May 1780.
